Are They Truly Wicked Or Just Emotionally Leaking

Some people are so committed to bad behaviour that you would think they signed a contract. Drama is their morning coffee. Trouble is their side hustle. If mischief paid salary, they would be top earners with benefits.

But before you shout in confusion, hold on. The real question is this: Are you dealing with a seared conscience or a wounded soul?

A seared conscience is that person whose sense of right and wrong has gone on permanent holiday. Their moral compass is not just broken, it has packed its bags and relocated. You can advise them, warn them, quote scriptures, even bring a whole committee. Nothing enters. It is like knocking on a brick wall and expecting it to say sorry.

Think emotional calluses.

• They know what is right in the textbook but cannot feel it in real life.

• They lie like they are reciting the alphabet. They use people without batting an eyelid. Their conscience is basically on flight mode.

• Trying to reason with them is like trying to teach a rock to cry. You will cry. The rock will just sit there looking gifted.

Now a wounded soul is a different movie entirely. This one is moving through life with emotional duct tape holding everything together. They are not causing problems because they enjoy it. They are reacting from injuries so old they probably qualify for pension.

Their heart has been locked and the key is somewhere between childhood and a memory they refuse to revisit.

• Imagine someone swinging a bat at the world but mostly hitting invisible ghosts. The ghosts duck, the world suffers.

And honestly, trying to fix either one without the wisdom of God is like trying to teach a cat to swim. The cat will fight for its life, you will regret your choices, and the entire scene will end in disaster.

Thankfully scripture already warned us:

• Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Romans chapter twelve verse twenty one

• A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs chapter fifteen verse one

So here is the final lesson. Knowing the difference helps you respond wisely.

Some people act out because they are hurting, others because their conscience has shut down. When you understand the root, you stop wasting energy, protect your peace, choose the right boundaries and know when to support and when to step back. Allow God to handle the ones who behave like they are auditioning for the role of village villain.
