As A Soldier Of Christ
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-2
Our reference today says,
"You, therefore, my son, be strong
in the grace that is in Jesus Christ. And the things that you have heard from
among many witnesses, commit these faithful men who will be able to teach
others also. You therefore, must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus
Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of life,
that he may please Him who enlisted him as a soldier..."
Beloved, having declared
Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, automatically, we become known to the kingdom of
darkness of this world. Whatever we do in our service to our Master becomes a
threat to the kingdom of darkness. Expectedly, they would react because of
their hatred for you and your Master. Friend should you be afraid or abandon
your Master? Of course not! For the psalmist says, "The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The
Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid of? When evil men
advance to devour my flesh, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will
stumble and fall" (Psalm 27:1-2). Even when some trials and
tribulations start coming your way, Jesus Christ is the Lion of the tribe of
Judah. Rather, such situations make you grow stronger in doing good, you remain
more faithful to your Commanding officer and active in His vineyard. The life
of a Christian is that of enduring hardship. To be able to do this, like a
soldier, you must be prepared to obey the laid down rules and regulations. You
must also be prepared to use the spiritual gifts given to you by the Holy
Spirit. So, the active Christian cannot runaway from hardship because of the
words of the Commanding Officer our Lord Jesus Christ which says "Let not your heart be troubled for I
have overcome the world" (John 14:1). You have no time to go on
holidays or retirement. It is a long time employment in the vineyard of the
Lord; which can only be terminated at the foot of Jesus in heaven.
